Nestled in the heart of Staining village just 3 miles from Poulton-le-Fylde and Blackpool, Thornfield Holiday Camp is a family-owned and run, family and pet friendly static holiday caravan park. We offer a peaceful retreat for families looking to create lasting memories in a beautiful rural setting overlooked (in places) by Staining windmill. Our park has operated as a camping ground of some kind for well over 100 years and is open from 1st March at 10am thru 31st October at 3pm. We have no rentals on park so our owners know their neighbours and make lasting friendships with them.
The past.
Thornfield holiday camp formerly Thornfield Farm was part of a parcel of land that once owned most of the Staining area including land as far east as Singleton village. It was established as a camping ground well over a century ago by various families but had no infrastructure and was in essence just a field. My Grandfather Thomas Emmott a coal merchant from old Trafford in Manchester, his wife Hilda and their three children Nora, Clara and my mother Hilda holidayed at Thornfield for many years in a deconstructable chalet that they had to build and dismantle at the start and end of each season until the land came up for sale and my family bought the business in 1953. My grandad and Grandma then moved to Blackpool to run the business with my Mum and Dad following shortly after. Both my Mum and Dad worked the business and built the infrastructure as can be seen today. The business remained with my Grandad until his passing in 1977 where my Mum Hilda and Dad Stan took over until 2008 when my wife Keeley and myself Brett took over and my parents retired at the ripe old age of 78.

Below is an image of one of the vintage caravans on the park when we took over in 2008. Sadly progress meant that she was removed a few years later for a newer model but she was a beauty.

Below
Thornfield back in the day. No roads, just a field prior to my Grandad and Dad putting them in. Note Staining windmill in the background.

"liked it so much that he bought the company"
and started a multi generation business.

The sign on the front of our house was made by my Dad. It's still proudly there after all these years.

Mum and Dad god love them.
Dad sadly passed away in 2010 aged 80 years and Mum left us in 2018 at aged 89 years.
Love and miss you guys always.

The present
On our takeover in 2008, my wife and I decided to operate an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" ethos. Most of my ancestors' methods worked so we ran with that. The introduction of flushing toilets thanks to Tommy Tucker joining us not long after my Dad passed away has been just marvellous but always tinged with a bit of sadness that my Dad wasn't around for the first flush. We have modernised our shower block and laundry facilities and generally maintain what's there. Sadly all of the old 1950's and 60's caravans have now gone to make way for more modern well appointed units with all mod cons.
We provide a full and comprehensive service for your new caravan from locating your favorite unit to its transport, siting and set up. For more information please call

With all of our caravans there is no age restriction whilst you own the caravan. When an owner decides that they want to move on we will assess the caravan for its saleability in the current market and discuss with the owner what their options are. When a caravan is coming to the end of its saleability with us, we will tell the new owner that they will be its last custodian and it will be priced accordingly.

So long as the caravan is safe, is cosmetically agreeable and its electrical and gas certifications are up to date we are happy for the caravan to stay in our park with its current owner.

The effort that our owners make on their caravans should be applauded. This caravan of John and Linda's really is a testament to their care and work ethics. It really does look fantastic. Just over 1 year ago there was another old caravan on this pitch but it was 90 degrees to this one and basically was an unloved mud patch. Well done guys.

Below.
Again. This caravan of Tommy and Margs really is beautiful.

Below.
This caravan of Keith's one of our more recent owners looks fantastic. Only a few months ago it was quite a neglected unit. It really has undergone quite the transformation both inside and out. Affectionately known as "Shoestring Lodge" its restoration is on a budget but you really can not tell.

Below.
This older caravan has outlived its saleability on our park and is sadly leaving us at the end of the season after 15 years. As you can see the gardens are beautiful. Well done Frank, Betty and Darren you've worked so hard on this pitch over the years.
A new (to us) unit will replace this one in the new year.

This Caravan of Malcolm and Chris's really does show how loved it is. So much hard work has been put into this unit.
